Monolithic Church

On Sunday we went to church. This was a special day for St Emilion, it was their turn to host the statue of the Virgin Mary. After the mass there was a procession to the Monolithic church (dates back to the 800's) where Mary will stay then go to Castillion the next town. Not sure how long she will be in St Emilion I didn't quite understand everything the priest said. It was great to see some of the school kids running up to Tatiana and kissing her hello. All the kids lead the procession, Tatiana was somewhere in the front.

Monolithic means made from one piece, so the church was made from one piece of rock.

It was nice to feel part of the town even though we still have our tourist hats on

This is the church congregation
Beautiful church all built out of rock under the earth.

There's Mary

All the kids were encouraged to kiss Mary

The old catacombs

An alter boy showing me the skull

This was something strange. It was a stairway, which supposedly lead to heaven
Another hole which the spirits upon death went up to heaven
