Santo Domingo Compassion tour day 2

Santo Domingo is already a different atmosphere, people are much happier
there is hope in the air

today we visit a Compassion center then some home visits
we also meet our sponsored girl

it is also Brigittes birthday, we plan on making her feel special today

We really had to use the bathroom so we stopped at this bakery to borrow their toilet
 pastries are very different here

plantains are every where and are eaten at every meal, fried, baked, mashed, breaded

 arriving at the compassion center

 Meeting Samaria
This was the first time this Compassion Center has had a visit,
I was surprised to hear this. All those kids no one has visited.
They threw a huge welcome party for us.
Samaria did a beautiful dance for us
 Performances by other kids

Brigitte being celebrated, this was a birthday to remember

 The Pastor prayed over her
 more dancing

off to do a house visit

We visited this home, Santo Domingo Compassion gives a box of goodies to all families visited
I wish we would have done this in Haiti
This is Yomar he is 3
 the kitchen
Their dad José was a carpenter, one day he got an order to do a cabinet, he was paid in cash
his cousin was there when he got the cash. Later the cousin hired a thug to go and get the money.
It was late at night when dad heard someone knocking. When he answered the door some one said "give me your money" he was shocked and said "no" he was then shot.
He is now paralyzed.
This is grandpa, he has cancer. He has a hole in his face which
he keeps patched up so when he eats the food doesnt fall out.
 We prayed over the José
We were all so touched, this is their son Luis who wants to be a cop.
Dont blame him he probably feels justice wasnt served.
He had the strongest faith in God he was happy to be alive and had shiny kind eyes
the entire family sleeps in that room
Mom sells candy for a living.
You cant walk out of a home like this and not want to do something.
We have asked to sponsor Yomar and we are trying to get the older brother
Luis into the Compassion college program.

 their sister
Somehow we are going to be sponsoring this little guy and keep in touch with the family
 Mom sister and Yomar

 Still celebrating Brigitte

The Santo Domingians are NOT camera shy

 With mom and brother
This is Marcel our translator and class clown

 Still celebrating Brigitte

Today was a powerful day, what a warm welcome
we were greeted with. We were given so much love we floated out of there.
I can tell you no one has been
that welcomed in our church. When we first moved to France it took
months before we were invited to someones house. It has taken us 7 years to fit in.

Meeting Luis and his dad has really impacted us.
Their houses look as bad as the ones in Haiti. Only difference is there are jobs out there.
People are optimistic they just need a chance.
