Today morning was free day, our translators took us into the Historical center to tour around.
Santo Domingo is known for Amber and Larimar which is a blue stone.

every Friday students are taken to the Historical center to learn about their culture
Cathedral of Santa María la Menor, or Catedral Primada de América, is the most important monument in Santo Domingo. It was constructed from 1514 to 1546 and includes Romanesque characteristics and the main facade was built out of coral rock. The chapels were built later than the main temple, and until 1992 one chapel housed the remains of Christopher Columbus.
kids were more interested in the puppy than the tour
El Alcázar de Colón palace was built for Columbus’ son in 1520, and as the center of court life entertained famous men like Cortes and Ponce de Leon
we bought all her lollypops for the kids, she was so happy
Visiting a child center, translations were a bit more difficult for us. They said it in Spainish then the translator said it in English then Stephane said it in French for the kids.

Mom is also 22 and expecting a baby, we decided we would sponsor her new born girl.
The blonde on the left is Michele from Compassion she leads the tour groups. She was
invaluable, you dont want to do a tour with out her. She got us all on the bus on time which was a
feat in itself with all our teens, she filled in awkward moments, she was there
with hugs when you cried and also there to make you laugh. She was friendly, thoughtful and
very professional. She learned French on this trip and made everyone giggle.
We went out to dinner to an Italian restaurant with really cool chairs
lots of mosquitoes hiding under the table make sure you come prepared
